The temple had its humble beginnings as Moilliili Fukyosho on South King Street in 1922. Upon the arrival of Rev. Tenran Mori in 1925, the temple became Moiliili Higashi Hongwanji and moved toWaialae Avenue. In 1962, the temple relocated to its current home on Palolo Avenue to make way for construction of the Mauka Arterial, now the H-! Lunalio Freeway. Since then, PaloloHongwanji has been supported by its many Nembutsu followers and open to the local community.
